Nothing like new technology to make you add another plug to your collection. I have plugs for my computer, my phone, my Kindles...and none of them work with each other. Part of the fun of having wireless technology is that you are supposed to be able to go wherever  you want with whimsy and freedom, no longer being tied to an outlets. Just looking as cool as all of those people in the commercials, carefree and taking pictures in the middle of nowhere. The reality is, I think everyone in those commercials are actually looking at their latest technology and thinking, "OMG....I only have 10% left...I need an outlet...STAT!" We are on day 10 of the government shut down. Another day for our government to point fingers and to lay blame. Another day for political rhetoric and posturing. Another day of all of our politicians to say they will compromise, but only if the other side does what they want. We also have another day of people fighting their battles for them. All the constituents fighting to prove their side is right. How we all "know" who is really keeping this stand going. How they other side really wanted this and it is all of their fault. While everyone digs in their heels, there are people who are very negatively affected by this shutdown, people who need the income to survive. They have been working just like everyone else to support their families. And then we have the private businesses that work with the government who have been cutoff and are no longer being paid for their services. One day a friend of mine told me about this game called Candy Crush. He said it was free and fun, so I decided to check it out. Now right at this moment some of you are understand how this story will go as you are a fellow Candy Crusher.   I admit.  The first level of the adventure, I was cocky.  I breezed through them like a hot knife through butter and I crushed the hell out of that candy. So one day, you're sitting there, wondering what to do. For whatever reason you have nothing to do on a Friday night, or you have forgotten everything that needs to get done. You reach for your remote and then see the Nexflix icon on your screen. You move your remote over to click on it and then begin to scroll through the many shows they have available. You decide to just try one out, something you heard about, something a friend told you about...something that you recognize. You go to Season 1, Episode 1 and watch the first show available.... The next thing you know it is 2am on a Monday and you have to get up in 4 hours to get to work.  You have been Nexflixed. It's that time a  year again, the holidays are upon us. No, I didn't just look at my calendar and see that they are coming up, I went shopping. I remember the time there was a break between holiday shopping. Halloween stuff went out first, then Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Now you can do all your shopping at once for all holidays.  To me this is a bit disconcerting. My year goes by fast enough, I don't need my retailers reminding me the end of the year is coming to a quick close. I like ending the year the way I usually do, surprised the end has once again arrived.  You would think at 44 years old the end of the year would not sneak up on me like a ninja, but every year I seem to have an excessive lack of planning for the end of the year. Every January I swear I will do better, plan things better and not let the end of the year sneak up on me. Today is a strange day…today my house is selling. For the first time in 2 decades, I will not own a house.  The divorce took a lot out of me, and now it takes the one thing I have for it to take. I must admit, it is a bit painful. I’d like to try to remember only the good times in the house and raising my children. I’d like to remember it filled with laughter and love. I’d like to remember we were blessed to have the home we did and we had each other. I’d like to remember the holidays and the good times…I’d like to. Unfortunately I can only remember the past 2 years of fighting and arguing the moment the divorce started. I spent a lot of time looking back and reminiscing lately about things and people in my past. It’s hard not to try and hold onto things that we miss.
